For people with dietary restrictions or Celiac disease (a health issue that damages the small intestine), they are limited to foods that are gluten-free. Products that are free of gluten include vegetables and, according to Mayo Clinic, most low-fat dairy products. However, many brands over the years have begun to make gluten-free products, using specific labels to differentiate between them. Many companies are so eager to join this trend that they emphasize their gluten-free products when there wouldn’t be gluten in them to begin with. With this sudden expansion of gluten-free advertisement, diet trends have increased. People with gluten allergies undergo a specific diet in order to stay healthy without this source of protein. As a result, people without these allergies try the diets because it’s perceived to be healthier. Because more brands are catering to people who are gluten-free, it impacts the purchases and diets of those who aren’t.
